Update on the current litter

All 6 continue to do well! Today I moved them into a separate cage from their Mom. They will still go back with her for a few minutes once a day to nurse with close supervision.

With her last litter at around 3 weeks of age two of her kits, who had been doing well, very suddenly died. We can only speculate what happened. One of the likely possibilities was that she fatally injured them in wanting to have a break from them trying to nurse. We did not want that to happen again!!

Now they have room to run around freely without us being concerned for their safety. They also have hay and water available to them. I will also be adding a little oats for them.

After moving them, right away one of them did three happy binkies across the cage! A couple others quickly started nibbling on hay and got a drink from the water bowl. I'm so happy to have them all doing so well.

While all the others were cuddled up resting this little guy was checking out the new space.

2 weeks old!

The kits got weighed in today. On average they all gained an additional 3 oz this past week, close to doubling their weight since one week ago. Their weights range from 6 oz to 7 1/2 oz.

The second week is always fun. Their eyes open between the 11th - 13th day. They also begin to learn to get better control of their back legs and start getting around pretty well.
