Spirit's Scarlet's Litter - one week old

Spirit's Scarlet is taking great care of her kits.  I've enjoyed getting acquainted with this new doe.  At first she was a bit shy and stayed towards the back of her cage.  Once her litter arrived and she was familiar with us she started coming up to the door.  She now is quite friendly.

I tried to get a good photo of the whole litter but they were being so wiggly I couldn't get any real clear ones.
Here is a photo of the one that is a different color than all the rest.  I will try to post a video after the photo of all 8.

Hoppy Easter!

Easter really isn't at all about bunnies, it's about JESUS!
When you raise bunnies it's hard to resist Easter bunny photos though!  :)

Happy Easter from Whitehaven Woods Rabbitry!

Spirit's Scarlet's litter - Photos at 3 days

These pictures were taken yesterday when Spirit's Scarlet's litter was 3 days old.  They are doing great.
It's fun to have one that looks different than all the rest!

Last night when we checked on them we did find that one of them had died.  With a larger litter this is more likely.  With a litter of 9 one of them will likely miss out on a feeding each time, as there is only enough to go around for 8 at a time.   Going forward we will always breed another doe at the same time as Spirit's Scarlet so that we can foster some from her litters to another Mom.  The 8 remaining had very fat bellies!

Update Violet's litter - good news!

UPDATE:  Good news!
Below is the sad news that I shared a couple days ago, but the good news is it is very apparent that the three remaining kits are just fine.  They are eating, growing, and hopping all about the cage with Mom.  They look good.  We are thankful!  They are 3 weeks old today.

Sad news: (previously shared)
Unfortunately in the last couple days things did not go well with some of the kits in Violet's litter.
They were all growing great and very active then suddenly some of them started having some serious issues that we'd not encountered before.  The only thing that was different than with all of our previous litters was the hay that we were feeding. From sharing the symptoms with others who raise rabbits it is agreed that it is likely that,  unbeknownst to us, this particular hay had mold or some other contaminate.  This would affect the sensitive young kits.  It was right around the time that the kits were old enough to start eating the hay that the problems began arising. As soon as we realized the hay might be the cause, we immediately stopped giving it to all the rabbits.  Needless to say, we will not buying hay from that seller again!

Sadly 2 of the 5 kits died in the last couple days.  The three remaining seem to be doing well though!
One of each color remains: Chinchilla, Chestnut, & Black.

A new (BIG) litter of Mini Lops arrived last night!

We are excited to say that last night after 10:00 p.m. Spirit's Scarlet had her litter and a big one at that!
She kindled 11 kits!  Two were dead but 9 are alive!  That's a lot of bunnies - the largest litter we've ever had here.  My husband and I were glad to get to witness the whole kindling.

The sire to this litter is Spirit's Finnik.  This litter is fully pedigreed and from great lines (Spirit, WolfSong, Harmon, Bryan).  If you'd like to be put on the wait list just let us know.

What's new at Whitehaven Woods Rabbitry

Last night and today Spirit's Scarlet (our new pedigreed, solid black doe) has been busy haystaching!
This evening she is pulling fur and getting everything just how she wants it.  This makes it apparent that her February breeding (prior to our purchase) to Spirit's Finnick did take.  We anticipate her kits should arrive in the next couple days!  I will post updates!

We welcome Spirit's Scarlet to our rabbitry!

We also welcome Spirit's Scarlet to Whitehaven Woods Rabbitry.
(Michele at Spirit's Rabbitry was kind enough to offer that we could rename her!)
She is a pedigreed, black doe, from great lines. (Spirit, Harmon, Wolfsong, Bryan)

She's a big beautiful girl, just over 1 year old.
She has already had one litter and had 8 in her first litter!
She comes to us bred so we are hoping for a litter in April!

Introducing Spirit's Clementine

We are happy to add this sweet girl to our rabbitry.
Thanks to Michele Alvarez at Spirit Rabbitry for this lovely girl.
When we first started getting into having Mini Lops one of the colors that caught my eye was orange.

This doe is very calm & friendly.
She is 2 months old, pedigreed, and from great lines.
When she matures we plan to breed her with Whitehaven's Simon.

Photos of Violet's kits - 6 days old Mini Lop photos

Obviously I was wrong previously.  It looked like 3 Chestnuts (above),
but now that their fur has come in more,
we see that the middle one is Chinchilla color.

The whole gang at 6 days old.

Stay tuned! New does coming!

I am excited to announce that we will have two new pedigreed does from excellent lines coming to our rabbitry in just a few days!  Stay tuned. Pictures of our new does will be posted late this weekend.

These does, paired with Spirit's Thor or Whitehaven's Simon (out of Spirit's Thor), should make for some nice kits for those interested in purchasing for showing in 4h!

New Mini Lop Litter born!

Violets kits arrived!  A few minutes ago, between 10:20 - 10:45 a.m., Violet kindled 5 healthy kits!
This photo was taken literally right after they arrived.  Not the prettiest picture but they will be very cute in just a few days!  They all look the same color in this photo but they are not.  Three of them are Chestnut Agouti.
