We are moving!!

Dear Rabbit Loving Friends,
I'm sorry to need to inform you, after so recently reopening, that Whitehaven Woods Rabbitry will be closing for good. I know many of you were excited that we were reopening. I'm sorry for any disappointment! We will be moving to a new home this fall and the raising of rabbits is not permitted at our new location.
It has been a delight to get acquainted with so many of you. Running a rabbitry was a fun and rewarding experience and I have many good memories from it!
Thank you for being wonderful customers and appreciating the Mini Lop breed!
I will likely leave this site open for any helpful information that still might be gleaned on the raising of Mini Lops.

Sincerely, Joanna

Litter update

I am very sorry to say that things did not go well with the kindling process today.
Ebony (aka WolfSong's Cougar) delivered a stillborn kit after 8 this morning. Nothing was to come for quite some time after that. This evening it was obvious that she was contracting and working hard to try to deliver another one. I could tell she was distressed and that the kit was likely too big. That was indeed the case. The kit became very stuck and had already died from the trauma. I had to assist her in removing the kit. I felt so sorry for her. She has been stretched out, taking it easy & recovering ever since. I am assuming there are not any more kits to come. I am so sorry for all of those who were anxiously awaiting this litter, like I was!
When I very first started raising rabbits, I remember reading an article that said "Raising rabbits is not for the faint of heart!" That is indeed true. Sometimes when the litter is smaller in number the kits grow larger in size and can become too large for safe delivery.

Here is a picture of the sweet Momma (looking quite pregnant) before all of the above.

Exciting news! Re-opening!

Here is a sneak peek!

Rabbits bonding with other pets

One of the frequently asked questions, when people are looking to acquire a rabbit is:
"Can rabbits get along with other pets?"

Yes, this is possible.  We have customers who have other pets (dogs or cats)  that have bonded with their rabbit.  Our calico kitty, Lucy, has recently befriended some of the bunnies in our rabbitry.  Obviously, exercise great caution when introducing other animals and do not leave them unattended.  CLICK HERE to see customer photos of rabbits with other pets.

Here is a photo of Lucy with Parker's Gatlin.  I had him out to trim his nails and she jumped right up and plopped down next to him.  After a few moments she sat up and groomed his ear a bit!  Another day she hopped right in the exercise pen with him.  I am very careful to supervise them closely. Lucy wants to play with him and I fear a playful nip or scratch could easily do damage to his lovely ears.

Upcoming Litters - Mini Lop update

I just wanted to add another Mini Lop update:
Tonight both Spirit's Scarlet and Spirit's Xena were bred with Whitehaven's Mango.
Therefore, we will anticipate a litter, hopefully two, in early February.
Spirit's Xena only kindled one kit recently and unfortunately it was dead upon arrival.
She was rebred today.  (*Please know that this is not at all unhealthy for her.  Rabbits are actually more receptive to breeding within a couple days of a lost litter.)

Updates from our Rabbitry

Happy New Year to all!

I wanted to post a couple updates on the happenings here at the rabbitry.

English Lops:
Our English Lop pair is doing great!  They are both so sweet and have settled in great. They are such a endearing breed.  I'm so glad I decided to add them to our rabbitry.
I plan to breed them for the first time in late February.

Mini Lops:
I am anticipating a litter out of Spirit's Xena today!
She has been busy for the last hour getting her nest box ready and today is day 31.
I will post an update when the litter arrives.

Spirit's Scarlet will be bred again soon to Whitehaven's Mango.
I have decided to keep the fawn doe out of their last litter here with us.  I have named her Peaches. Peaches had an eye infection as a young kit.  I kept her around longer to make sure her eye healed up well. In that time I decided she should just stay!☺  She is doing great and such a sweet, friendly girl.
Here is a photo of her:
Whitehaven's Peaches

Spirit's Clementine is going to the home of a fellow rabbit raiser and friend of mine.
I know she will be well taken care of. Unfortunately she has yet been able to have a litter.

Important Change regarding Wait List

I want to inform anyone who is looking to purchase from our rabbitry of an important change:
We are no longer keeping a "wait list".

Since establishing our rabbitry, I have always kept a wait list but have found it to, all too often, end up not being a good use of time. It takes a lot of time emailing folks on the wait list and waiting for responses and decisions.  Many on the wait list end up not purchasing.  I've had as many as 6 people on the wait list (turning others away) and only 1 or 2 actually ended up purchasing.  It's very unpredictable.

SO, going forward I will simply be keeping a "Notification List" rather than a wait list.  You can email at any time and request being put on the notification list. This simply means you will be notified by email when there are rabbits available to be reserved or for sale.

People on the notification list are not reserving a spot in line.  If you prefer to simply follow this site or our facebook page, and contact us when you see a rabbit available that you'd like to purchase, you may do so.  You do not have to be on the notification list to purchase.   It's simply an option available if you find it helpful.  Please note that our rabbitry always has the right to turn down a sale if we don't feel good about the fit.

Our email address for contacting us is: whitehavenwoodsrabbitry@gmail.com
I usually do not give our phone # as I prefer to do correspondence via email.
I check emails often!

Mini Lops - taking reservations soon.

Scarlet's litter will be 5 weeks old this weekend and ready to go to their new homes a couple days before Christmas.  I have already contacted the first two people on the wait list via email.
Unfortunately there are not many bunnies available in this litter.  I wish I had one available for everyone on the wait list right now!!  One of the 4 kits injured her eye when only a couple weeks old and I need to keep her around here for a good while to make sure it heals the best it can. Then much to my surprise the most active/curious kit in the litter died at the beginning of the week.  (This is rare at this age but we have had it happen one time before and both times the only thing we can suspect is suffocation.  They pile up with Momma for sleeping at night!)

We are waiting to see if we get a litter out of Spirit's Clementine mid-December.  If we do, those that remain on the wait list will be notified and still in line!
If you are looking to purchase a rabbit sooner than we will have some available, we understand.
Please just let me know if you'd like to have your name removed from the wait list.

Thanks.
Joanna

Photos of our new English Lops!

Last night we welcomed our first pair of English Lops!
We will be breeding this pair when they mature.
Thanks to Sheree White for these two beauties.

This is the first I have held and interacted with English Lops!  Wow.  They are big rabbits and those ears!
They have such a unique beauty about them.

The doe is definitely the more outgoing of the two.  They are getting acquainted with us and enjoying having turns running around in the exercise pen.

This is WolfSong/Parker's Rapunzel.  She is a tort colored doe.  She is 6 months old.

This is Parker's Gatlin.  He is a blue colored buck.  He is just over 10 months old.

Retiring this sweet buck! Looking for good pet home!

I'm retiring this sweet buck. He's fathered most of the litters at our rabbitry and I've been so pleased with him.  Many that follow our site have a kit that he fathered.  He's shy until he knows you, but once he's acquainted, he loves to be pet and get attention.
He is only 3 1/2 years old and has not had any health issues whatsoever.  He has never sprayed once while here at our rabbitry.  He's got such a sweet, chubby face.

I'd love to find him an indoor home where he can be spoiled with attention.
He has not been around young children so I am desiring a home with older responsible children, or a companion for adults.
$40 for pet home
If you are interested please email me whitehavenwoodsrabbitry@gmail.com

Exciting news! The English are coming... English Lops that is!

I am excited to announce that our rabbitry is adding a pair of pedigreed English Lops to our rabbitry! From what I can see there are no other breeders of English Lops in middle to northern Indiana.  I am excited to bring this breed to the area!

NOTE:  We will still be raising pedigreed Mini Lops too!

About English Lops:

English Lops are one of the oldest breeds of domestic rabbits still in existence.
They weigh in around 10-11 pounds  or more (that's right quite a bit more than Mini Lops!)
They are known for their incredibly long ears, mandolin shaped body, and their puppy dog personality.  People either find them odd looking or beautifully intriguing!

A pedigreed pair will be arriving in one week.

Spirit Scarlet's kits - Photos at one week

Spirit Scarlet's litter is 9 days old today.
These photos were taken over the weekend at one week.
It's early to be certain but it looks like possibly a buck and doe in each color.
The two orange/tort (not certain yet) look very much alike in color, the lighting was just different in the photos. In the first photo you can tell which of the blacks is the runt in the litter.  All 4 doing great though.

2 Mini Lop Bucks left from Xena's Litter!

**Updated November 5, 2016

This is Spirit's Xena's litter of 6.  There are 2 photos of each rabbit in the litter.
They are now 8 weeks old.  **There are three left available at this time.

I have indicated below each photo if the rabbit has already been sold  or reserved.

** Please note: if you are purchasing specifically for showing in 4h the solid colors in this litter would be what you'd want to look at.  The brokens in this litter (white with another color) do not have enough color (therefore called "charlies") to be shown.  However, if you are looking for a pet or for brood quality, any in the litter could be a good option.
